                            Media Department

                            Media Studies is an academic discipline focusing on content, history and effects of various media; in particular, the 'Mass Media'.
                            At De La Salle students will also develop a wide range of skills associated with Media, skills that are transferable to many different career paths and further education courses.

                            Media Studies draws on traditions from the social sciences and humanities.  It has many cross curricular elements including English, Philosophy, Psychology, Science, Art, History, Film, and Information Technology.

                            As technology develops, the importance of education in this field increases.

                            Why Media?

                            In addition to helping students acquire subject knowledge, Media; 

                                  • develops critical thinking and decision making skills
                                  • develops appreciation and critical understanding of the role of the media in daily life
                                  • combines practical and theoretical of how knowledge and skills through opportunities for personal engagement and creativity
                                  • encourages an understanding of how to use key media concepts to analyse media products and their various contexts including
                                  • prepares students for study in a range of further education courses
                                  • prepares students for work in the industry


                            At De La Salle we believe in offering innovative subjects that engage students in contemporary issues, gaining knowledge of the wider world.
                            We develop this knowledge along side the traditional subjects to make education as broad and fulfilling as possible.  Media Studies ia an area of study that will help in the progress and development of students.

                            With a wealth of practical and theoretical experience Media Studies will help ensure students leave De La Salle with the necessary attributes to achieve in what has become, a demanding world.fferent
